Wooldale Community Centre was born around half a century ago after the closure of Wooldale Junior School. The building, owned by Kirklees Council, was operated as a Community Centre by the Wooldale Community Association, a voluntary group of workers. More recently, the council, as part of its cost cutting, transferred the Centre to the voluntary Trustees (as an asset transfer); the Trustees became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, operating under the Charity Commission (Charity number 1159314).

The current Trustees aim to make the facilities available both to community groups meeting regularly, and for other events. However, hirers should understand that the Trustees work voluntarily; there is a part-time paid cleaner, but no full-time staff. Hirers must undertake to leave the premises as they find them, and also keep to the times they have booked. The Trustees are always keen to encourage anyone to come along and find out how the centre is run, and perhaps volunteer to help.
